Everyone wants a manicured lawn, but a beautiful yard comes with a lot of work and knowledge. Since grass grows so fast in the rainy months of the spring season, mowing the lawn is often a weekly chore. An essential part of a manicured lawn is maintaining your residential fence, which can be difficult for those who are mowing and cutting their grass frequently. If you want to keep your yard and fence looking great all year round, we have some tips on how to cut your lawn without damaging your fence.
Start By Trimming
The lawn mower should not be used too close to your fence, as the dangerous blades can easily cause damage. Instead, trim the grass near your fence with a weed eater with a line. The line weed eater is easier to use but is also cheaper to repair if you accidentally clip your fence. Use the trimmer at least one-half inch away from the fence posts, and consider adding aluminum tips to the bottom of your fence posts to protect the material from the trimmer. A chain link fence, for example, can be damaged by a trimmer quite easily, so practice patience and don’t rush the process.
Mulch
For those who want to reduce grass growth around their fence, using mulch around the bottom of fence posts is a great solution. You may see a lot of flowers and small gardens close to your neighbors’ residential fences; this is because small gardens not only make your fence look great but also help to reduce grass growth to make trimming easier. If you don’t want to take care of flowers or plants, small garden statues in mulch also help to minimize grass growth.
If you don’t like the look of mulch, you can apply a small ring around each fence post that will remain unseen in a larger yard. This allows you to keep the grass away from your fence and reduces the risk of fence damage.
