Whether your custom fence installation was designed by Hercules Fence for a residential or commercial property, it is still important though you know how to properly maintain it. While a Hercules fence does not need maintenance in order to guarantee its security, you still want your fence to appear aesthetically as it did the day you bought it. Our fences are made from a variety of materials, and so they are cared for in a variety of ways. Here are a few tips from Hercules Fence on how to best care for your custom fence installation.
For wood fences
Wood is one of the more high-maintenance fence materials because, unlike most synthetics, steps need to be taken to waterproof it. A water preservative or sealant acts as a waterproofing agent for your fence and can minimize warping and splitting after applied. Even so, positioning hoses and sprinklers away from the fence is still advisable; you want to keep the wood as dry as possible to prevent rotting.
For vinyl fences
The number one issue you’ll need to tackle with a vinyl fence is keeping it clean; surfaces, particularly of a white vinyl fence, will easily show dirt and grime if you let it build up. Good old soap and water should be enough to clean your vinyl fence. If not, a soft scrub brush can be used to clean off tougher spots.
For an iron fence
An iron fence is a beautiful, classic addition to any home or building. Wrought iron, however, can be susceptible to rust in humid, rainy climates. You can apply a sealant or a coat of wax to your iron fence to repel water, cutting back on the risk of rust. A coat of paint can also serve as an extra protective measure between your fence and the elements.
